The project includes the construction of a new power station at the lake Kangerluarsunnguup Tasersua, which will be equipped with new turbines with a total capacity of 76.9 MW, as well as a 16 km transfer tunnel connecting the two lakes, Kangerluarsunnguup Tasersua and Isortuarsuup Tasia, to ensure water supply for the new power station.
The new power station will be connected to the existing plant via a 37 km transmission line. With the expansion, the total capacity will nearly triple from 45 Megawatts to 121 Megawatts, thereby securing Nuuk’s supply of renewable energy for many decades to come.
The project is tendered as a turnkey contract, with construction expected to begin in 2026, and the new hydropower plant anticipated to be commissioned in 2032.
