Following the successful initiation of the prequalification phase for the Utoqqarmiut Kangerluarsunnguat / Buksefjord hydropower project, NunaGreen A/S is now advancing with the hydropower project in Disko Bay. Today, the company announces the establishment of a new subsidiary, NunaGreen Construction Disko Bay A/S, which will focus specifically on constructing a hydropower plant to supply the towns of Aasiaat and Qasigiannguit.
The creation of NunaGreen Construction Disko Bay A/S marks another step toward realizing the Government of Greenland’s decision to enhance the country’s energy supply through renewable green energy.
“With NunaGreen Construction Disko Bay A/S, we are establishing a dedicated unit to ensure a targeted and efficient effort in this critical project. The hydropower plant will not only meet the energy needs of Aasiaat and Qasigiannguit but also serve as an important milestone in Greenland’s transition to sustainable energy,” says Aviaaja Karlshøj Knudsen, CEO of NunaGreen.
The new hydropower plant in Disko Bay will be one of the most ambitious construction projects in the region. The project includes the construction of a new hydropower plant and the establishment of a transmission line spanning over 100 kilometers, ensuring stable and sustainable energy supply to the two towns.
NunaGreen looks forward to sharing more details about the project as the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report is expected to be submitted for public consultation in 2025.
NunaGreen Construction Disko Bay A/S has been established to provide a clear focus on this specific project while ensuring that resources and expertise are optimally utilized. The company will issue a tender for advisory services for the project early in the new year.
“With this new company, we can strengthen our organization and ensure we have the necessary competencies and resources to successfully execute the project. We look forward to continuing the development work and preparing a tender that is both technically robust and sustainable,” she adds.
At the same time, the existing NunaGreen Construction A/S will be renamed NunaGreen Construction Nuuk A/S to reflect its primary area of focus and geographical location.
