As part of the expansion of the hydropower plant in Utoqqarmiut Kangerluarsunnguat (Buksefjorden), work on the access road to the project area is now well underway. During this construction season, NunaGreen has initiated the establishment of a new work road from the harbor facility at the existing power plant up toward the water reservoir and the area where the expanded hydropower plant will be built. The work is being carried out by the contractor GNC.

Temporary Area Closure for Safety Reasons

To ensure safety, the entire area – including port facilities, access roads, and designated construction sites – will be closed to the public during the construction season. This applies to pedestrians, boaters, hunters, and other users of the area.

The construction work involves blasting, heavy machinery, and transport operations, which make access restrictions necessary. The areas will be clearly marked with signs and barriers, and NunaGreen encourages everyone to respect the safety guidelines.

“Utoqqarmiut Kangerluarsunnguat is an important recreational and hunting area for many, and we fully understand that the temporary access restrictions may be inconvenient. However, the safety of both the public and the many workers on the construction site is our highest priority,” says Aviaaja Karlshøj Knudsen, CEO of NunaGreen A/S.

Green Power for Decades to Come

The expansion of the Buksefjorden hydropower plant is the largest hydropower project in Greenland to date. Once completed, the project will be able to meet Nuuk’s growing energy needs with green electricity for decades and contribute significantly to the green transition.

A map showing the affected area around the port and construction road is included.
